The Arab States RCP is the primary regional coordination mechanism that aims at optimizing the regional United Nations assets in the service of Member States as they strive to achieve their Agenda 2030 SDG goals United Nations Country Teams (UNCT) the Resident Coordinators (RCs), and other development plans and results as they strive to support Member States in these endeavours.
In doing so, the RCP generates synergies by consolidating functions previously performed by different coordination mechanisms and strengthens strategic direction and accountability for system-wide work at the regional level, in line with the vision of the Secretary-General and ECOSOC.
The functions of the RCP are underpinned by the principles of ownership, system-wide collaboration to support Member States, and cost-neutrality (i.e. draw on existing resources and mechanisms). The RCP holds an annual meeting under the Chairship of the Deputy Secretary-General, with ESCWA and UNDP as co-vice-chairs. In addition to the Annual Meeting, the RCP meets regularly to discuss ongoing collaboration, assess progress and tackle specific in-country situations. The membership of the RCP is the Regional Director for each UN agency operating in the Arab region.
